How to share a screen recording

Emailing a 300 MB video file is the slow, frustrating way. The modern way is a link: you stop recording, paste a URL, and the other person watches in their browser a second later. Here’s how — plus the sharing controls that matter.

The problem with sending video files

Raw screen recordings are big. Email bounces them, Slack compresses them, and the recipient has to download a file and find an app that plays it. Worse, you have no idea if they ever watched it. Sharing a recording as a link fixes all of that — the video streams from the cloud and plays in any browser. A screen recorder like ClipCast creates that link for you the moment you stop.

Step-by-step

  1. Record your screen. Capture your tab, window, or whole screen with the ClipCast extension. When you stop, it uploads automatically.
  2. Copy the link. The share link is copied to your clipboard the instant the upload finishes — no exporting, no “processing” wait.
  3. Paste it anywhere. Drop it into Slack, email, a ticket, a doc, or a text. The page shows a thumbnail preview wherever links unfurl.
  4. They watch in the browser. Recipients click and watch in a clean player — no app, no account, no download. It plays on phones too.

Control who can see it

A link doesn’t mean “public to the whole internet.” You decide:

ControlWhat it does
Sharing on/offFlip a clip private at any time — the link stops working instantly.
PasswordRequire a password to watch (great for client or internal videos).
Expiry dateAuto-disable the link after a date you choose.
Require emailCapture the viewer’s email before they watch — useful for leads.
Custom URLUse a clean, branded slug instead of a random one.

Password protection, expiry, lead capture, and custom URLs are Pro features. Basic on/off sharing and the link itself are free.

Know if it landed

Every shared recording tracks views, so you can tell whether your client actually watched the walkthrough before the meeting. No more “did you get my video?”

Do recipients need an account? No. Anyone with the link watches in their browser — no sign-up, no app, no download.
